The BBC coverage included David Willetts from the Conservatives repeating the usual statement that the Tories "need to show that they can connect with 21st Century Britain". What they never seem to realise is that the reason they don't look like they are a modern party is because they aren't. They actually believe that changing the party isn't necessary and all they need is some new public relations experts.
Roger Knapman came across very well, I thought. He sounded very reasonable and didn't resort to slagging off the other parties as the other three panelists did.
It is probably a tactic that we should continue in future elections. The three main parties are seen as petty squabblers, and they just keep on doing it. If we can be seen to rise above it, then that can only help our image.
